Maine Marriage Phone Bank
Maine is facing a similar anti-gay, Prop 8-type ballot measure on Nov. 3, Question 1, that could strip away the freedom to marry for gay and lesbian couples, while Washington’s Referendum 71 could eliminate that state’s “everything but marriage” domestic partner protections and benefits.
With just 12 days to go until Election Day, our brothers and sisters battling anti-gay ballot measures in Maine and Washington need our help in their Get Out the Vote efforts!
We here in California know just how important wins in theses states could be for our chances the next time that marriage equality is on the ballot here in California. All of our staff at Vote for Equality and a number of our core volunteers have either already volunteered on the ground in Maine, or are heading there soon, to offer our experience working on the campaign against Prop 8 and the repeal efforts.
Vote for Equality is also helping the causes in Maine and Washington right here at home, by organizing phone banks where we’ll be calling voters in Maine and urging them to get out and Vote No on 1, and voters in Washington to be sure they vote to Approve Ref. 71.
Don’t worry if you’ve never talked to voters on the phone before. Volunteers will receive a full training, and experienced coaches will be there to help out.
